The most "reputable" armor/weapon/title combination
Anyone sort of look at someone and go "wow, now *that* is cool" in a town/outpost and just stand in amazement at how amazing the character is?
I saw someone with "Gosu Skillz" the other day, we partied up and he had a crystalline with chaos gloves and obbi armor.

I always judge a player's skill by his equipment. Can't stand to team-up with noobs in 1.5k armor and collector weapons.

There really is nothing to set one player apart from another based solely on appearance. Early in the life of GW there was (Droks armor prior to running), but now, so late in the game, there's not too much.

I was under the impression the epitome of skills was black obby armour, chaos gloves, bandana/mo zing with a torm shield and a voltaic spear.

You are absolutely right. Also voltaic should be dyed black.

Surely someone who has a 3 and half year old tyrian character with Legendary survivor who has only worn 15 al armour the whole time would be the most impressive.
strangely i seem to fall out with people who wear chaos gloves all the time. remember kids no chaos no skill.

When I was newb I was very much impressed by the "Tyrian Grandmaster Cartographer" title owners. But for some reason the reputation degraded as soon as I earned it myself. I guess that the proverb "The grass is always greener on the other side" also applies to online games.
Armors never impressed me really. Some do look very nice but I don't think they give any status. Largely the same for weapons, only the tormented ones still impress me.

Why oh why does everyone place Obby and Chaos Gloves in the 'OMG!!!!!1!1!!one' box? They're just expensive, 'tis all... Female Necro with Profane tunic (elite or non elite, both look nice, but then again it all depends on player funds and tastes :P), Cabal gloves (with these it depends whether you go for the elite tunic or not, if you do it best to stick with the elite Profane stuff for the gloves, but again it depends on funds and taste), Cabal leggins (i personnaly prefer non-elite in both set cases, because 1. i dont like the seprated sections on the dress of the elite version and 2. because the fact that you havnt got fishnets on your legs makes the boots look nicer...) and finaly elite or non elite depending on what you can afford canthan boots.
Thats a rather simple set, though it took a long post to explain it.
Obby is ugly in most cases, and dying everything in black only works on sin amors and some monk armors.
Chaose gloves just fail. Generaly when i say that people say that i only dont like them because i cant afford them, but it can, and i just dont like them.
Its like dying a Voltaic Spear black: you loose all the color, 'cept with chaos gloves people just never look at you character armor, just his hands.
Oh and @ people who judge people buy their armor and weapons: one of my previous guild leaders never owned a set of elite armor, never owned a rare weapon, not because he was a shit player, but because he didnt like them. When EoTN came out we did slavers and he saved us from party wipes many a time.

Personally I look at the titles I have and think "yea nice one" because I worked to earn them. Other peoples titles I think "yea nice one" because they earned them, but I do that for every title. Protector of Tyria means as much to me as Rank 15 Hero does

And ridiculed as well.
Titles/armor/weapons mean different things to different people. There really is no single/true answer to the OP's question.
And I REALLY hope that all the posts praising Chaos Gloves weren't serious. They're are just slightly less horrible than the Dragon Gauntlets.
(see, different views from different people)

personally, i respect players with cooler armor combinations that look good a lot more than ones with Obby armor. however as long as their armor isnt black (especially black obby... ick) or 1.5k fail, i dont really mind what they wear.
that being said, my monk has obby armor, prot torment staff, and slim specs set for pvp, dyed a flattering vermilion color.
PS - it really wasnt hard to get during the perma sin failure update. i got a set in a little under a week farming for 1.5 hours a day.
edit: titles dont impress me. they usually make me feel pity... (except maybe the pvp ones which some people actually enjoy getting, but with all the 2x weekends it really doesnt matter anymore because you cant tell a total nub from a pro anymore. ive been in r8 groups that cant play anything but hway and it is SAD.)
